Multipurpose Rescue Vehicle Malaysia MRV 2012 Launch

Malaysian company introduces the worlds first multipurpose rescue vehicle

A new and completely innovative multi-purpose rescue vehicle was launched last week by LWK Automotive Green Technologies Sdn Bhd in Jalan Kapar, Klang, and is in fact the world’s first.

This amazing vehicle, or MRV, was invented by a fellow named Dr. Low Wai Koon. Dr. Low was provided a grant by the government in the amount of RM 2.2 million for the project and in all it took nine years to complete. When all is said and done, the complete cost of production for each MRV is going to be RM 600,000

This vehicle is by far and above unlike any of the conventional rescue vehicles that are available today which are made to provide assistance during both natural and man-made disasters. The reason for this is because it has the capabilities of successfully completing rescue missions through the remains of any area after a natural disaster has taken place, whether it be a flood, fire, hurricane, tornado or earthquake.

Some of the features that make this vehicle so special is the fact that the transmission is completely waterproof, as well as the fuel tank. It has been stated by the manufacturer that this vehicle has the capabilities of driving through 6 feet water while the engine is running as long as the vehicle still has a source of fuel.

This vehicle also has the ability to act as a fire rescue vehicle since it is equipped with a 630 psi pump that is able to both suck and spray water. The passenger capacity is equipped to evacuate 15 people at a time, and it has the capability of producing 20 kW of electricity with the onboard generator.

Obviously the vehicle is provided with four-wheel drive capacity, and it is fully capable of moving through a variety of different rough terrains including mud and surfaces that have an abundance of rocks. All of this was demonstrated quite adequately at the launch event for the vehicle.

The weight of the MRV is 2.6 tonnes, and due to that 9000Nm torque that it has available, it is able to tow in excess of 40 tonnes. Another unique feature of this MRV is that it has an approach angle of 45°.

Another aspect that makes this vehicle so amazing is the display all of the power that it has, the only power source driving this little beast is a 2.0 L diesel engine. The power to the drive train is all coming from hydraulics powered by the internal combustion engine.

The designers have gone a long way in making this MRV extremely green as well since the small power plant drastically cuts down on fuel consumption, as well as the emissions of carbon.

CEO of LWK Automotive Green Technologies, Tan Sri Robert Phang, has stated that the target buyers for this high tech MRV will be sectors of the government including the National Security Council, the Defense Ministry, the police, as well as disaster relief foundations like Mercy Malaysia, and the Red Crescent Society.

Another statement that he made is that “We have received many enquiries from Thailand, Brunei, China, Myanmar and Bangladesh. However, our main aim is to market the MRV locally first.”

Other statements were made concerning their desire for the government to provide them with a development and marketing platform that will allow them to become successful with the MRV both in the local market, and internationally.
